Apologies to all for not posting in a while; I've been out and about, conducting interviews and going to Wimbledon. Rough life, I know...
But what I really wanted to say was that I'm not persuaded by the new
Google Image Search-- it doesn't seem to get anywhere near the pictures I want and is overwhelmed by lots of little advertising .GIFs.
The only way an image search engine is ever going to work is by accepting
a starter image as input, and using that as a search criterion...

Why isn't the
Foucault figure clad in leather and wearing a pair of the thickest black glasses you've seen this side of Piggy?

I'd be hard-pressed to think of a less likely
Tupperware salesperson, but it appears that she's serious about it.
While we're on the topic,
this book is an excellent take on the the plastic containers and how they fit into the economies of 'female' work.

This has got to be copyright infringement of some kind, but it looks like so much fun.
Speaking of Kitty-tastic technology, check out

Whew! Thank goodness
I found it. I've got a literature review to write, after all.

As the 'sulfnbk.exe' virus hoax continues to spread (hitting my academic department, incidentally), some clever person has seen
the humourous side of computer-inspired paranoia.

First,
a homeless boy gets a perfect SAT I score (in addition to some incredible SAT II scores). Then instead of the likely suspects (i.e. Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc.) stepping in to offer the kid a chance to come and study, he gets an offer from unaccredited, ultra-religious Bob Jones University (the very same one that was vilified in the press during the last election for its retrograde attitudes towards racism, the Confederate flag, and sexuality). What seems the biggest shame here is that he'll end up going there unless something pretty drastic happens.
